Growing Together - Day 22: Faithfulness

Growing Together – Day 22: Faithfulness

READ: Romans 8:32 - He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

“Surely if he would not spare His own Son one stroke, one tear, one groan, one sigh, one circumstance of misery, it can never be imagined that ever he should, after this, deny or withhold from his people, for whose sake all this was suffered, any mercies, any comforts, any privilege, spiritual or temporal, which is good for them.”  (John Flavel - 18th Century Puritan Pastor)

“The great promise of future grace, guaranteed in the logic of Romans 8:32, is that nothing will ever enter your experience as God’s child that, by God’s sovereign grace, will not turn out to benefit you.  This is what it means for God to be God, and for God to be for you, and for God to freely give you all things with Christ.” (John Piper, from his book Future Grace)

REFLECT: God’s faithfulness is not only faithfulness to His word, and to His promises – it is faithfulness to Himself.  God the Father will ever be faithful to God the Son.  He will forever be faithful to the perfect obedience of the Son.  He will forever be faithful to the glory of His own goodness, justice, kindness, mercy, and love – expressed through the Son – because there is nothing better in the universe to be celebrated.

God has been faithful to care for us on the grandest scale, now we must decide whether we will trust Him to be faithful on the smallest scale – our food, our clothes, our homes, our work, our schools…

What is the most difficult area for you to trust in God’s faithfulness?

Pray: Ask for God’s help to trust Him more - to trust that He is actually working something good for you through that challenge.

Lord, help us all.  We might be confident in your faithfulness today,

but when a new trial comes tomorrow - we might struggle.

Build us up.  Help us send down deep roots

into your Faithfulness.

Amen.
