1 Timothy 1:15-16 ESV: [15] The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. [16] But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.
1 Peter 1:14-16 ESV: [14] As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, [15] but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, [16] since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
In this message to Timothy, Paul wants Timothy (and us) to remember that Jesus came to save sinners, and we are all sinners. Christ’s perfect patience was displayed in Paul, that we might have confidence that it is also available for us.
